Primary Health Care Corporation Qatar, a Global Leader in People-Centred Care

In the dynamic and ever-evolving health care landscape, Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in Qatar actively champions innovation and people-centred care (PCC) initiatives. A decade ago, PHCC embarked on a transformative journey to improve the quality of health services, undertaking a rigorous evaluation process within Accreditation Canada’s (AC) international program.

This comprehensive initiative was designed to assess, monitor, and continuously enhance the performance of its health centers. Recognizing the importance of PCC in the process, PHCC strategically integrated it into its corporate strategic plan as a top-priority area. The 2018 accreditation process with AC further elevated PCC, establishing it as a pivotal process within the Governance and Leadership standards—meticulously implemented at both program and service levels.

Transforming a culture takes time and consistent actions with measurable outcomes. PHCC has diligently worked on embedding PCC throughout the organization, developing indicators encompassing process and outcome measures. These measures are crucial for activities that may take time to show impact, ensuring a systematic approach to patient engagement. Regular reporting of process measures to senior management enables the identification of areas where patient engagement activities may need adjustments and highlights the achievement of targets.

AC lauded PHCC’s systematic and comprehensive approach to embedding patient-centred care. In 2021, during a momentous celebration, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) team marked a significant milestone, achieving diamond-level accreditation and becoming the first recipient of the People-Centred Care (PCC) Commitment Award globally from AC.
