On June 10, we joined the global community in celebrating World Accreditation Day. This year's theme was, "Supporting the Future of Global Trade," highlighting accreditation's crucial role in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A panel of experienced health care leaders shared innovative practices and approaches on how accreditation drives quality improvement, laying the foundation for resilient and sustainable health systems. This global event showcased accreditation's transformative power, introducing innovative quality dimensions encompassing social determinants of health, environmental sustainability, and beyond. From co-production to learning health systems and workforce to crisis responses, they explored innovation and resilience at every level.

The webinar drew in 1,741 registrations with active participants from 87 countries, showcasing true global learning in action.

Webinar Presenters:

Leslee Thompson, CEO of Accreditation Canada & HSO, delved into the concept of Health Quality 5.0, emphasizing the importance of resilience in modern health care systems - strategies for building resilience through integrated, coordinated and people-centred health system, supported by a learning health system and new quality approaches.

Joanna Marie Alvaro Elizalde, Head of Quality Control, Medical Affairs Division, Qatar Red Crescent (Qatar), shared how accreditation standards helped improve their crisis preparedness and response strategies, focusing on community-based interventions to mitigate the impact of local crises and enhance community resilience.


Monica McAlduff, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice-President, Quality, Cultural Safety and Humility, First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) (Canada), shared the critical role of co-production in creating and testing the BC Cultural Safety & Humility standard to address discrimination and advance cultural safety across the British Columbia health system.


Shiran Isaacksz, Vice President, University Health Network (UHN) (Canada), discussed the critical role of equity and access to care by shifting the focus from traditional institutional models to "care outside the walls" that include holistic community-based approaches. His discussion focused on addressing systemic disparities, increasing accessibility, and cultivating a culture of inclusivity within the health care delivery system.
